Depression

I work with clients struggling with feelings of loss, despair and hopelessness; whether due to a chronic mood disorder or as a result of situational circumstances in their life. My training in psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing techniques serve me well in addressing needs of this population. I also have a strong working knowledge of the basics of psychopharmacology and a list of resources I can offer clients, should they decide medication is a route they would like to further explore.

Addiction

I have specialized training as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor and have worked with a diverse variety of clients in the realm of addictive and compulsive behaviors. These include substance abuse, gambling, eating disorders, sex/intimacy, shopping, and internet/gaming. In addition to working with private clients, I led intensive outpatient and early recovery treatment groups at outpatient substance abuse/dual diagnosis agencies based in Manhattan for over 8 years.

Anxiety

This is one of the most common issues that I address with clients since anxiety can present in so many different ways. Together, we will work to understand how the anxiety is manifesting and in what ways it is negatively impacting day-to-day life. I often employ a CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) lens to my approach with clients, with a focus on challenging cognitive distortions, enhancing distress tolerance skills, and mindfulness-based techniques.

Couples and Families

My work with couples and families operates through an EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) and Family Systems Theory lens. Specialties include working with families (couples, parents, children, siblings) who are impacted by a loved ones’ addiction and/or mental health struggles causing disruption within the family unit. I also work with a wide range of general relationship challenges in couples and families, often with the focus of increasing levels of intimacy, enhancing communication skills and working towards setting firmer boundaries. In addition to my general training, I also contracted with and was supervised by a reputable Ackerman Institute certified Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and leader in the field.
